FAQs

Q?

What medications do we need before the board and train?

A.

Your dog will need to be up to date on all their vaccinations, especially kennel cough, prior to joining our board and train. If your dog is scheduled to have their flea, tick, and heartworm prevention during their stay, the owner is responsible for providing the medications. Just tell us what day to administer, and we will do so.

Q?

What is an E-Collar?

A.

An E-Collar is training tool that is used to reinforce commands that the dog has already learned. I have my own style of teaching the dog and owners how to use the e-collar, which makes it fun and easy to use! When used properly, the e-collar is, hands down, the best training tool!

Q?

Do you use a harness or “gentle leader?”

A.

No, I do not. These are great tools, but they do not solve the problem. They are merely a band-aid. We teach the dog how to walk gently on the leash and how to remain calm and relaxed around distractions.

Q?

What are your training methods?

A.

I have trained with and been mentored by some of the best trainers in the country. I learned a lot of great techniques and some not so great techniques! Over the years, I have developed my own style of training which teaches the dogs how to learn! I use a variation of positive reinforcement and pressure training. We teach first, then hold the dog accountable once they understand the command. We phase treats out quickly so the dog learns to comply with commands because they want to please you! No more begging your dog to come inside because you have a treat or to come when they are called because you tell them you're going for a car ride!

Q?

Will my dog’s personality be different after their training?

A.

Great Question! No, your dog will still be the "same!" They will just have better manners, listen to commands, be a more disciplined, controllable, and loving member of the family!

Q?

Will my dog remember me after their board and train?

A.

We get this one all the time! Yes! Your dog will be so excited to see you when their session is complete. Reunited and it feels so good!

Q?

What breeds do you train?

A.

At Obedience Academy, we have experience training many different breeds and personalities. We don't turn away any "one" breed due to stereotypes. From Shih Tzus to St. Bernards, we train them all!
